Profile

I walked down a number of different avenues before entering the world of art although art has always held a fascination for me.

I was first a teacher of French, then a marketing executive carrying out research in Europe for small companies in Northern Ireland, then a lecturer in Marketing, then a mother and finally, after many different part -time classes in pottery, wood-turning and art, I decided to take a 4 year course leading to a Diploma in Fine and Applied Art.

Since qualifying in 2002, I've taken part in a number of joint exhibitions and held two solo exhibitions. I also have had the privilege of being given an art bursary for a 2 week stay at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre and having my art in the public collection at Limavady Borough Council.

STATEMENT

So many prople I've met are afraid to voice their opinions on art and believe that they not only know nothing about it but are useless at doing it even though they have an appreciation of art.
Yet, everyone who listens to music or who reads a novel or poetry or watches a film readily gives an opinion or critical analysis of those art forms.

Art to me is imagination dancing through man's soul and so, what ends up on the canvas is an expression of the innermost thoughts of the artist.
So, in the same way as people prefer reading Alexander McCall Smith's writings to those of Jo Nesbo, or listening to Beethoven's symphonies rather than the Beetles' songs, so it is with art.

Don't be afraid of saying what you think. Some art will affect you deeply or disturb you greatly and some will leave you totally indifferent.

Although my art cannot be labelled 'Christian Art', my christian faith has a strong influence on what I produce.
I hope that my art stirs some emotions in you and that you enjoy looking at it as much as enjoy creating it.
